Motivations for Running

Brian's decision to run for City Councillor stems from a deep connection to Scarborough-Rouge Park. He aims to leverage his firsthand experience and understanding of the area to advocate for its residents at City Hall.

Witnessing the pressures of certain areas within Scarborough-Rouge Park fueled Brian's commitment. He is determined to ensure the ward receives appropriate developments and its fair share of infrastructure investments, addressing past oversights by developers and city planners.

Working to maintain your confidence

I believe city councillors should work every day to build and maintain the confidence of the communities they serve. 

 

I believe city councillors should be advocates for everyone in their ward; homeowners, renters, local businesses, and other stakeholders in the community. 

 

I believe city councillors should not use the position as a springboard to other higher levels of political office while in office. I do not intend to seek any other political office within the city, province or federal level. 

 

Priorities for Scarborough-Rouge Park

Brian Matthews is focused on three key priorities: First; working closely with the community to amplify their voices at City Hall. Secondly; community safety is a huge concern all across the city: issues like car theft, home invasions, youth and gangs, park safety, and road safety are all areas every ward in the city needs to address. Thirdly; development. There are pressures to intensify development, and often it is a developer-led approach leading to outcomes that put further pressures on an area. I'd work with the community, developers, and planning staff to help ensure the area remains a great place to live for all, no matter your age or stage of life.

Engagement and Communication

To ensure the voices of Scarborough-Rouge Park residents are heard, Brian plans to actively engage with each community on a regular basis. He will maintain a local office, work with city staff, issue surveys on upcoming City Hall topics, and regularly inform residents on issues affecting the ward.
