Have you ever looked to see if any City of Toronto Council members declare a potential conflict of interest on any particular vote?
I have. Here is a link to the City of Toronto Open Data Registry of Declared Interest
Some have recused themselves because of spousal business interests, some because a spouse works for a developer, some "out of an abundance of caution" due to property ownership issues.
I find it interesting to look into certain data.
I am a Realtor in Toronto, Scarborough. I am divorced, and my ex-wife and I have no financial interest whatsoever. My son is almost 15 years old, so he has no business interests, nor does he work for the city.
If I am elected, I will park my Real Estate License at a small brokerage located out of the city and not operate as a Realtor.
My parents are 85 and 90. Long ago, they decided to sell their Scarborough home and retire out of the city.
I have no other business interests. I do not owe any organization or business any favours. I can't foresee any topic that would come up at City Hall where I would need to recuse myself from a vote.
For the sake of transparency, every candidate should declare any potential conflicts of interest that might lead to their recusing themselves from a vote.
