Ward 25, Scarborough-Rouge Park will see increasing development over the coming decades.
While we can't stop developments that align with the City's Official Plan, as a councillor for Ward 25, I can ensure the community benefits from developments locally. Sections 37 and 42 are tools to achieve this. Other councillors allow their residents to vote on benefits they would like to see installed with these funds, and I would follow that model. At the same time, ensuring increased services like TTC scale with increased development. Development shouldn't lead to over-gentrification. It should not lead to replacing value grocery stores with upscale grocery stores. It should not lead to having our communities' small businesses replaced with chains or priced out of the market for commercial space.

Highland Creek Development Plan has been under consultation since 2012. I was there. There has been extensive consultations with the neighbourhood. What I heard from people was that they don't want "it to become like Liberty Village".

The old Morningside Mall location is up for redevelopment once again. The application status is open. The application was filed in 2022, and in September 2024, Scarborough Community Council adopted the approval for the rezoning application.
