RapidTO - Lawrence Ave East
There is one thing this city loves to do, and that's study things to death.
Lawrence Ave East is a three-lane (each way) road with a center median (turning lane). It handles a lot of east/west traffic throughout Scarborough, and is an important route. The road is wide enough to handle a BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) with red paint like on Kingston Road and Morningside. This should be a priority route for RapidTO. The study is from Victoria Park to Rouge Hills Drive but should really be from Don Mills or Leslie to Rouge Hill GO Station. (I believe the study area singles out the Scarborough portion of the road with the area west of Scarborough also being studied at another committee, which would be redundant, possibly leading to different designs and causing bottlenecks).
I would be in favour of speeding up this process to get Lawrence Ave E RapidTO BRT up and running faster.
Lawrence Ave East is an important East/West Avenue. It is time the design of the Avenue was updated to accommodate the future needs of moving people around the city.
Note: Reports in 2017/2018 on small sections of Lawrence Ave E (near Birchmount) have been completed. It doesn't make much sense to have different road designs along the same Avenue (which largely has the same function and needs) just because the Ward number has changed. A comprehensive road design for the entirety of Lawrence Ave East would allow east-west travel to flow more easily and rapidly.
