Eglinton Crosstown LRT

Eglinton Crosstown LRT

The boondoggle that is the Eglinton Crosstown LRT...there is no other way to describe it. It has been 15 years in the making, there has been enormous disruption to businesses across the line, and it is likely to be delayed beyond the September 2025 opening date again!

There are calls for a transparent inquiry to understand why this has occurred. The cost overruns, the contractors fighting with Metrolinx, the lack of explanation from the provincial government...it goes on and on.

Would an inquiry produce results?

How many CEO's has Metrolinx been through? If someone who was working on the line started at age 50, they would be retired by now. If someone started at age 25 they would be 40 years old by now.

Here is the Wikipedia webpage on the history of the line:

We have been through 4 Mayors, 2 Premiers, 4 Metrolinx Ceo's.

How many other decision makers have retired along the way?

Probably a significant number.

An inquiry may not produce answers from past CEO's, that would produce new information. It could just be another process that would waste resources.

I want the Eglinton Crosstown LRT open as soon as possible. there is need to learn lessons from it to apply to new lines, if that's possible. I want the Finch Ave West LRT open as soon as possible. Finch LRT had an opening date of August 2025, and now that date is also in limbo. See Article Here:

These lines do not run through Ward 25, but we are all affected by cost overruns, costs of endless litigation, and the costs of lessons never learned. It is not the first or last time Toronto/Metrolinx builds a streetcar line, an LRT line, a Subway Line, but every project costs double then estimated/proposed and at least 1/2 a decade longer than anticipated.

I would have to see the proposed motion on an inquiry to see if it would actually produce results or just add unacceptable costs without holding anyone/agency/contractor accountable.

I'm sure there is a ton of blame to go around.

I am not sure if I could support an inquiry where the only result is bigger bills to more lawyers with zero lessons learned to apply to new projects.
