Off Leash Dog Parks

Off-Leash Dog Parks are a great way to exercise and play with your dog. They also provide the socialization dogs need, and if done properly, can be used as areas to train your puppy.

A great example of how dog parks should be is the area at Thomson Memorial Park. It has four different fenced-in areas. For large dogs, small dogs, active dogs, and less active dogs. With water stations so the dogs can drink fresh water. With areas where people can sit. The parks are built for the dogs. They have grass, not gravel.

Ward 25 (When it was Ward 44) years ago opted for a dog park on Old Kingston Road. I was part of the initial discussions where there were very few dog owners taking part. The people mostly taking part were local property owners without dogs. So the city put in a dog park with concrete and gravel that mostly suits people and not the dogs.

If I am elected as City Councillor for Ward 25, Scarborough-Rouge Park I would like to identify two new areas where proper off-leash dog parks are constructed.

Don't forget to license your pets, and be aware of ticks.
